About me
I’m Eleanor Burke (LLB Hons, DipFA, CeFC) - a financial coach working with women and non-binary people in the UK who want to feel more confident, clear and empowered when it comes to money.
I wasn’t born into finance (far from it!). I found my way here via a winding road… I grew up in Nottingham after being born in Barnsley, a clever and slightly confused kid who never quite understood the rules everyone else seemed to know. I studied law at university, drawn more to the social justice side of it - sexuality, race, the history of justice - than the corporate stuff which might have made me rich. Uni was hard for me - I felt isolated, overwhelmed and had some serious mental health issues. But I made it through.
What came next changed everything. In the aftermath of the 2008 crash, with so few jobs available and no clear plan, I accidentally opened a yarn shop. That one decision sparked 14 years of learning, growing, teaching, creating, leading and community-building. I navigated floods, thefts, Brexit, a pandemic, the loss of my dad and a late-in-life ADHD diagnosis - while winning awards, running events, publishing patterns, chairing an industry association and appearing on TV and radio. Most of all, I built a space where all sorts of people felt welcome, creative and connected.
Through grief, global upheaval and the necessary stillness that came with lockdown, I found myself getting interested in personal finance. I began studying to become a financial advisor - and while I loved the learning, I realised I didn’t want to manage other people’s money. I wanted to help people understand their own. I wanted to work with those in the stages before traditional financial advice becomes appropriate.
My coaching work grew out of that drive - to demystify money, to connect it to the bigger picture of power, privilege and systems, and to support people in building a relationship with money that feels grounded, liberating and truly theirs, so they are free to make their mark in this world.
I’d love you work with you - you can read more about that by just clicking here.
